This site contains information about the Shire of Burke on the Gulf of Carpentaria - the towns and communities and stations; businesses and industry;  the colourful history of the region; tourist information; weather and road conditions; and articles and photographs describing the amazing waves of the Morning Glory, until quite recently one of Australia's best kept secrets.

Burketown is host to the famous World Barramundi Fishing Championships in Easter each year.  A fun weekend for all the family with over $20,000 in cash, prizes and trophies.  With maximum size catches for barramundi of 1 metre allowed. 2009 saw a 1m 13kg Barramundi take the $3,200 prize for the heaviest barramundi.
